Gabrielle Pool's Oasis Africa Fundraising Exhibition with Film & Photography by Stuart MacLeod
Outstanding talent, Gabrielle Pool has achieved critical acclaim globally for her passionate portrayal of the peoples of Africa, especially the dignity and beauty of African women. Oasis Africa Australia was delighted to present her Sydney exhibition on the 10 & 11 December 2007 at Bayswater Brasserie. With the funds raised from the sale of Gabrielle's works, we are able to continue to provide the holistic care that the children of Kibera need.

Gabrielle Pool - Oasis Africa Australia Ambassador
"Africa makes me acutely aware of life and death. On the plains of the Masai Mara and Serengeti there is no question about place or role in the greater scheme of things. It's pure survival. The African landscape offers so many vital, brutal lessons about our primary needs and desires."

The Oasis Africa Australia team
Kibera is a scar on the conscience of Africa - it is a forgotten place with little government intervention and no medical aid and very little or no sanitation. Society has failed to deal with the growing slum area and its expansion has overtaken any existing means to solve the problem... and we are committed to changing this.

Development of the Child Sponsorship Program - July to October 2007
As part of their trip around the world, Ross and Karen Howe spent several months at Kibera, working with the school to develop the Child Sponsorship Program. "It is so exciting to experience Kibera first hand. The children and the teachers are an inspiration and within increased fundraising, we know that there is a bright future for every student at Oasis Africa Kibera School." (Ross and Karen Howe)

Howorth Family Visit
In the middle of 2007, the Howorth family traveled throughout East Africa and as part of their itinerary, made a visit to the Oasis Africa Kibera School. The visit by Michael, Vikki, Jasmin (15), Josh (12) and India (8) was the first to the school by Australian kids and the impact was incredible. The mutual bond was formed almost instantaneously and the impact on both the Howorths and the Oasis Africa Kibera School kids will be long-lasting.

The move to a new school - September 2005
After seeing the need first in June 2005, a group of friends in Sydney decided to start 'Oasis Africa - The Kibera School for orphans Project' to raise awareness and funds. The intial funding for the school had been underwritten personally by the Australian co-founders (Kim Winter and Lalita Ari), which allowed for the school to be re-located to more suitable facilities in September 2005.

Initial trip to Kibera - June 2005
Kim Winter was first introduced to Kibera during a business trip to Nairobi in June 2005. What he discovered was a community of 100 orphans and vulnerable children learning in a dark, small sewage-ridden, unsafe iron shed. As a result of this impacting experience, Oasis Africa Australia was born.
